The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the Western Conference Semifinals.
Anthony Edwards is the real deal, and he’s made sure to let everybody in the league know about it.
He closed out the Phoenix Suns on the road with another epic performance, taking the torch right from Kevin Durant’s hands to move on to the next round.
Following the game, former NFL star Robert Griffin III took to Twitter to give him his flowers, predicting he would be the MVP of the league next season.
The quarterback-turned-analyst praised Edwards for having a competitive mentality and proving himself against a star-studded team like the Phoenix Suns, calling him the new face of the NBA and lauding him for his 40-point, nine-rebound, six-assists performance.
“Anthony Edwards will be league MVP next year. He is the new face of the NBA people have been waiting for,” Griffin said.
Anthony Edwards will be league MVP next year. He is the new face of the NBA people have been waiting for. 40 points on 23 shots, seven 3’s, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to sweep the star studded Suns. This guy just keeps getting better and has that DAWG in him. Unreal. pic.twitter.com/GFjcH5gjGx

Truth be told, Edwards could’ve and should’ve been a strong MVP candidate this season as well.
The former No. 1 pick was on a roll from start to finish, averaging 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.4 three-pointers on 46/35/83 shooting splits, all while leading the Timberwolves to 56 wins and the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
Also, he proved to be ready for the big stage and that his youth wasn’t going to be a factor.
The Timberwolves had lost four straight to the Suns in the regular season, but none of that mattered as soon as the playoffs started.
Edwards has also taken a huge leap as a defender, going from being a non-factor on that end of the floor to a legitimate stopper.
He keeps getting better and better and he’s just 22 years old.
