Sails on the iconic Moulin Rouge windmill COLLAPSE crashing to the ground at the world’s most famous cabaret club in Paris

The iconic red sails of the windmill atop the Moulin Rouge, Paris’s most famous cabaret club, crashed to the ground overnight.

Officials are puzzled as to why the blades fell, but firefighters said there was no further risk of collapse at the iconic building.

The shovels collapsed on a street in the center of the capital of France.

“We don’t know what happened, it happened between 2am and 3am, no one was injured,” a spokesperson said, adding that the last show of the night ended at 1.15am.

Images shared on social media showed the blade unit lying in the street, with some of the blades slightly bent from the fall.

Another Moulin Rouge official said: “Fortunately this happened after the closure.”

“Every week the cabaret’s technical teams check the mill mechanism and do not detect any problems,” said the source.

“It is the first time an accident like this has occurred since” the cabaret opened its doors.

The Moulin Rouge cabaret, with its distinctive red windmill blades, is located in the north of Paris and is one of the most visited buildings in the city.

The club is best known to many as the birthplace of the modern form of can-can dancing.

It was founded in 1889 and the audience for its dance shows is mainly made up of tourist groups.

The accident will increase concerns about whether Paris, one of the world’s most visited cities, is ready to accommodate the thousands of people arriving during July and August for the Olympic Games.

The only serious accident that the monument has suffered was a fire that occurred during construction in 1915 and which forced the site to close for nine years.

In 2022, the windmill opened to the public for the first time and Moulin Rouge lovers could stay inside.
