When a player is in his mid-to-late-30s, retirement is always a thought that seems to creep into the mind.
For Los Angeles Rams starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, that thought is seemingly already in his mind.
His head coach in Sean McVay hopped on “Mad Dog Sports Radio” to chat with pundit Adam Schein about Stafford’s future.
“We were taking it a year at a time, but as long as he wants to play, we’re fortunate to have him as our quarterback,” McVay said Thursday.

The Super Bowl champion quarterback will turn 37 at the end of this NFL season.
He has fought and played through many injuries while playing in both Detroit and Los Angeles.
It could soon be time for him to step away from the sport.
However, his retirement will seemingly not be taking place this year.
His former teammate in future Hall-of-Famer Aaron Donald looks to be the only Ram that will hang up his cleats this offseason.
Heading into the 2024 season, the Rams could be looking at another potential playoff run.
With Stafford, All-Pro receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, and a well-coached defense, Sean McVay could very well make his sixth playoff appearance in eight seasons out in Los Angeles.
No one truly knows how long Stafford will want to keep playing the sport of football.
But when he does decide to hang up his cleats, he should be on the road to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He is undoubtedly one of the best quarterbacks of this era.
