The Los Angeles Rams have one of the best and most underrated quarterbacks in the game.

Nonetheless, Matthew Stafford isn’t getting any younger, and he’s been quite banged up over the past couple of years.

Stafford is a tough player who’s often played through injury, but he’s endured a beating since he entered the league, and that’s got to take a toll on his body at some point.

With that in mind, the Rams drafted Georgia veteran Stetson Bennett last season, hoping he’d be a suitable backup.

Bennett was placed on the non-football illness list in mid-September and missed his rookie campaign, raising doubts about his future with the team.

Still, it seems like HC Sean McVay still has plans for him in the future, as he recently talked about how engaged and active he’s been during the offseason program, and how much he hopes he’s out there when they start their actual training camp (via ProFootballTalk).

However, McVay also left the door open for potentially taking another quarterback in the draft:

“I think you leave all options on the table,” McVay said. “Stetson’s been here. We’re in phase one. It’s been just meetings and then lifting so our ability to get out on the field with the players hasn’t existed yet. That’s the thing that’s the most fun. But he’s done a great job of being engaged in the meetings.

The Rams also signed veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, who’s going to be suspended for the first two games.

Some believe they could take a chance on Washington star Michael Penix Jr., who would then develop behind Stafford for at least one season.

The Rams could also look to part ways with Stafford before the end of his contract, and they have to consider all their options for the future.

Whether Bennett will be a part of that future remains to be seen.
