Horror footage showed several helicopters flying at full speed in a tight formation before two crashed into each other.

There were no survivors.

The incident took place at 9.30am local time (2.30am BST) in the city of Lumut, in the western state of Perak, where a large naval base is located.

The helicopters were rehearsing over the weekend for the Navy’s 90th anniversary celebration.

“All victims were confirmed dead at the scene and sent to the Lumut Naval Base Military Hospital for identification,” the navy said.

He added that an investigation into the cause of the accident would begin soon.

Efforts were being made to verify the identities of the slain crew members, all of whom were under the age of 40.

Seven crew members were aboard the AW139 maritime operations helicopter, the Navy said.

Three other crew members were aboard a Fennec light helicopter, manufactured by European multinational defense conglomerate Airbus.

Local media reported that the AW139 crashed into a sports complex at the naval base, while the Fennec crashed into a nearby swimming pool.
