Simone Biles Surprised Over History Repeating Itself in Her Comeback Season After ‘Twisties’ in Tokyo

Simone Biles has come a long way in the gymnastics world, transitioning from the “world is going to hate me” to “That’s so exciting”. The legend has made a major comeback in the sports world after her hiatus from the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and recently won her fourth career Laureus 2024 World Sports award under the comeback category. That journey is studded with several jewels. Biles recently spoke for the Laureus Award and candidly expressed her emotions for the comeback.

A social media update on May 4th from Laureus X account shows Biles talking about her journey from 2013 to 2023. The caption reads, “From retaining skills to having skills named after her, Laureus World Comeback @Simone_Biles reflects on an Award-winning return to competition in 2023. #Laureus24”.

Simone said, “Ten years ago, my very first world championships was in Antwrep so that was 2013, and last year in 2023, I made my sixth world team which was back in Antwrep and it was so crazy of everything that we recognized that was similar to 2013.” On that sixth occasion, Biles comfortably clinched a record-tying sixth-world all-around title. With 58.399 points in Antwerp, Belgium, surpassing last year’s champion, Rebeca Andrade of Brazil, by 1.633 points. Not stopping there, she delved into the nostalgia.

She further added, “One being I got my very first skill named after me in 2013 and in 2023, I got another skill named after me. Just 10 years apart some of the gymnasts are still competing that I completed with in 2013 so our longevity is staying there so that’s exciting.” Continuing the emotion, the legend stated, “It’s just so crazy to me that I got to be back in that same place and did just as good as when I was there 10 years ago.”
