Professors and students from universities in the capital, Tehran, joined academics from across the country after midday prayers earlier that day and held a rally in support of the uprising by pro-Palestinian students in the United States and Europe.
Students from the University of Tabriz, in northwest Iran, held a demonstration called “Awakened Consciousness” in defense of the rights of the Palestinian people and in condemnation of the crimes of the occupying regime.
In central Iran, students in the city of Yazd are also lending their support to protest rallies held at American and European universities, which have faced harsh repression by police in recent weeks.
Violent treatment of students has sparked condemnation around the world.
Similar demonstrations were held in dozens of other Iranian cities, including Abadan, Ilam, Isfahan and Lahijan.
More than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed and tens of thousands more wounded in the months-long, US-backed Israeli assault that has left the defeated Palestinian enclave in ruins.
