It’s no secret that the Minnesota Vikings are in the market for a quarterback after losing Kirk Cousins in free agency to the Atlanta Falcons, and with Sam Darnold signing as his replacement along with having the No. 11 and No. 23 picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, it’s clear that if the Vikes want a QB on Thursday, they’re going to take one.

According to one analyst, there is a specific prospect they’ll have to reach for that they like more than many other teams do.

Ben Volin of The Boston Globe shared (via The Purple Persuasion on Twitter) that the Vikings want UNC quarterback Drake Maye more than the New England Patriots do, saying: “If the Patriots were truly sold on Maye, they wouldn’t consider trading their No. 3 pick. My hunch is that the Vikings want Maye more.”

For months, Maye was projected as the No. 2 pick to the Washington Commanders, but LSU’s Jayden Daniels has reportedly overtaken him for that spot.

J.J. McCarthy out of Michigan has seen his draft stock soar all the way to being a potential top-5 pick, and most trade rumors involving the Vikings have them trading up into the 5-6 range to take McCarthy.

Not many pundits have floated the idea of the Vikings using that extra first-round pick to move all the way up to No. 3, but it would be great for Maye as he’d step into a situation perfectly suited to welcome a new quarterback.

Smokescreen season is in full effect, and we all can’t wait to find out what was real and what wasn’t on Thursday.
