Watch: Hurricanes score twice in nine seconds for comeback win

The Carolina Hurricanes wiped out a deficit and took the lead in just nine seconds on Monday night.

Down 3-2 to the New York Islanders with a little over two minutes left, Sebastian Aho (2:15 remaining) and Jordan Martinook (2:06) scored in that span, and the Hurricanes went on to a 5-3 win in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference first-round series at PNC Arena.

Jake Guentzel added an empty-net goal.

Carolina trailed 3-0 more than midway through the second period, but Teuvo Teräväinen got a power-play goal late in the second period and Seth Jarvis, who also had two assists, made it 3-2 with 9:17 left in the third period.

Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen did not have much work. He only faced 12 shots and stopped nine.

That’s in contrast to Game 1 on Saturday, in which Andersen put in a spectacular effort with 34 saves in Carolina’s 3-1 win.

New York goalie Semyon Varlamov faced 39 shots on Monday night. Kyle Palmieri, Bo Horvat and Anders Lee scored for the Islanders.

Game 3 is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y.
