On Friday night, Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner proved why he might be arguably the fastest player in MLB — but possibly at a cost.
In the bottom of the fourth inning against the San Francisco Giants, Turner remarkably scored from second base after a ball-four to first baseman Bryce Harper got past backstop Tom Murphy.
However, before the start of the fifth inning, Turner left the game with what the Phillies described as left hamstring soreness.
The injury doesn’t seem too serious, and it looks like Turner’s early exit is only a precautionary move. That’s good news for the Phillies because the 3-year-old is off to a red-hot start in 2024.
Entering his second season in Philly after signing an 11-year, $300M deal, Turner has been one of the most dangerous hitters in the Phillies lineup. Entering play on Friday night, he was batting .336/386/.455 with two home runs and nine RBI while going 9-for-10 in stolen base attempts over 32 games.
