Whopping $265,000 Timepiece Ensures That Serena Williams Glitters in Gold in a Star-Studded Met Gala Night

The 2024 Met Gala saw tennis legend Serena Williams carrying “a memorable and glamorous piece” to create “something truly extraordinary.” She bedazzled as a golden goddess on the red carpet, but her dress was not the only eye-catching part of her ensemble. The stylish timepiece she wore snatched quite the limelight!

To interpret this year’s “Garden of Time” dress codeWilliams dressed as a real trophy in a shimmering gilded gown. The one-of-a-kind golden piece featured two trains extending down to the floor, one from behind her shoulder and the other from a side leg slit. Kesha McLeod styled Williams, who accented with black gloves and gold hair accessories. One of her more notable accessories was the timepiece the Queen of the Court wore on her left wrist.

Williams wore an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo, which cost upwards of $265,000. She chose the watch because “I love how the sand gold colour plays off my dress and how its tone changes depending on the angle and light.”

Williams’ ensemble was completed with the help of Balenciaga and the former number 1 did not forget to thank them for their help. “It’s truly been an honour to collaborate with the talented Balenciaga team on such a memorable and glamorous piece. This gown represents a collective effort to create something truly extraordinary, and I am immensely proud to be the one to showcase it,” Williams tells Vogue.

While Williams is keeping the attention on herself with her look at the Gala, she is not the only tennis star turning heads.

The five-time grand slam champion attended the Gala in a stunning Prabal Gurung gown inspired by the MOMA’s Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion Exhibition as well as the event’s Garden of Time dress code.

Sharapova had to step out of her comfort zone for this year’s Gala outfit. “I usually prefer neutral tones in my everyday life, so it’s nice to explore different colors and wear something that’s unusual and things that you don’t expect from yourself.”

Both former stars are representing tennis at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Serena Williams wears a shiny outfit, while Sharapova goes for a brighter outfit. Talking about competition, Serena Williams’ outfit faced a lot of criticism from fans in terms of not resonating with the dress code of the event. However, both the stars had a great time at the Gala as Sharapova was looking forward to getting a picture with the Williams sisters to recreate their iconic moment from the 2021 Met Gala.
