While it was expected that certain safety upgrades would be made in the helmets, it seems like Roger Goodell-headed league has decided to make a 180-degree turn about the issue.
When the question about the inclusion of the Guardian Cap was raised last year, the league spokesperson refused the proposal, citing future improvements in the helmet as the reason. According to a recent report, the NFL has gone back on its stance and will be allowing the use of special safety helmets in the upcoming season. Dawn Aponte, the league’s chief administrative officer, made the announcement in a recent webinarinforming that the players will now have the “option” of donning the Cap in a game “if he so chooses.”
