A BRITISH tourist was mauled by a bear after she stopped to take photographs of the beast.

The unnamed woman, 72, was driving near Romania’s Carpathians when she saw two playful-looking bears.

The Scottish tourist rolled down her window to take pictures with her phone when she suddenly stood on her hind legs and stuck her paws into the car.

He then bit the unsuspecting woman’s arm, causing his partner to quickly hit the accelerator to escape.

The woman was rushed to a hospital after Monday’s terrifying encounter on the Transfăgărășan mountain road in Argeş county, southern Romania.

She told local media: “We were in the car and we were going to take a photograph.

“And the bears came to the window.”

Doctors have since confirmed that the woman’s injuries are not life-threatening.

In her hospital bed and with a sore arm, the tourist added: “I just wanted to take a photo (of the bear).”

And he managed to get a stunning snap when he captured the bear incredibly close up with one of its giant paws inside the car.

After the attack, police are said to have split into several teams to chase the bears away from the area, What’s the Jam reports.

They also advise residents and tourists to always maintain a safe distance when encountering wild animals.

It comes after two gas drilling workers miraculously emerged alive from a savage attack by a brown bear.

The couple suffered serious injuries, including lacerations to their arms and an exposed skull.

They were seen fighting the savage beast in a horrific attack that was captured on film.

A man behind the camera shouted a warning to the workers: “Everyone flee!”

In a chilling moment, the witness later said, “(The bear) ate it.”

Two men, reportedly named Eldar Gareev, 39, and Ivan Bulashenko, 46, were in the smoking room of their floor when they saw a pack of dogs chasing something.

The bear then emerged from behind bags of chemicals and one of the men, a mechanic, opened the door to scare it away.

About 20 minutes after the attacks, a local hunter arrived at the request of the gas installation workers and shot the animal.

Both men received first aid at the scene and were airlifted to hospital.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed and many more injured after two separate bear attacks just hours apart in Slovakia.

Horror footage showed a bear running through the streets of a Slovak city as it lunged at a man on the sidewalk.

In the heart-stopping clip, a pedestrian escapes the furious beast just in time by jumping over a fence.

But five other residents, who do not appear in the video, were not so lucky and had to receive medical treatment for their injuries in hospital.

Just hours earlier, a woman was killed in another bear attack in the Low Tatra Mountains.

The 31-year-old victim was walking in the Demanovska Valley with his 29-year-old friend when the pair encountered the predator.
