The Baltimore Ravens took a step forward last season and fell just short of reaching the Super Bowl after losing in the AFC Championship Game following an impressive run toward obtaining the No. 1 seed.
A major priority for this offseason was keeping the defense intact despite losing defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, and one key member of that unit won’t be going anywhere for at least the next few years.
The Ravens have announced that they have picked up the fifth-year option on edge rusher Odafe Oweh, who will be relied upon to stabilize the position for the team after losing Jadeveon Clowney in free agency.

Oweh is only 25 years old and had five sacks in 13 games last season, and with Clowney leaving, he will be looked at as an anchor for this team in the pass-rushing department alongside the returning David Ojabo.
Baltimore also just drafted Oweh’s college teammate out of Penn State in the third round, Adisa Isaac.
Kyle Van Noy was also re-signed in free agency to provide consistency off the edge, as he put up a career-high nine sacks in 14 games last year in his first season as a Raven.
With a more prominent role in front of him, it will be a key subplot to the upcoming season for the Ravens to see if Oweh can elevate into a double-digit sack guy.
Oweh taking the next step would go a long way toward mitigating the losses of Clowney and star inside linebacker Patrick Queen.
