Millions of Social Security recipients who are paid on the agency’s regular schedule and have birthdays from the 21st through the 31st are scheduled to receive their October benefit on Wednesday, the Social Security Administration’s 2026 payment calendar shows.

Who gets payments when

The Social Security Administration distributes monthly retirement, disability and survivor benefits on a staggered schedule tied to beneficiaries’ birth dates for people who began receiving benefits after May 1997. Under that schedule:

  • Born on the 1st through the 10th: payment on the second Wednesday of the month
  • Born on the 11th through the 20th: payment on the third Wednesday of the month
  • Born on the 21st through the 31st: payment on the fourth Wednesday of the month

That framework means the final regular Wednesday payment date in October — Oct. 28 — covers beneficiaries with birthdays from the 21st through the 31st.

Supplemental security income timing

Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, is generally paid on the first of the month. Because Nov. 1, 2026, falls on a Sunday, the SSA schedules the November SSI payment to be sent early on Friday, the agency’s calendar shows. The SSA’s published remaining SSI calendar dates for 2026 include:

  • Friday: November 2026 SSI payment
  • Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2026: December 2026 SSI payment
  • Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026: January 2027 SSI payment

Questions about missing payments

The SSA advises beneficiaries who do not receive a scheduled payment by the expected date to allow for additional mailing time before contacting the agency. For recipients who receive payments by direct deposit, the posted date is when financial institutions generally make funds available.

People who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 follow a different payment schedule and should consult the SSA’s calendar or their award notice for specific dates.
