Mojang Studios released a dedicated edition of Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct. 27, bringing a new official visual upgrade called Vibrant Visuals and support for several Switch 2–specific enhancements.

What Vibrant Visuals adds

The update introduces the company's largest official visual enhancement for Minecraft, with changed lighting, reflections and shading across environments. Mojang says sunrises are more vivid, water reflects and forests show deeper shadowing when Vibrant Visuals is enabled. The feature is available across supported content in the Minecraft Marketplace.

  • Vibrant Visuals: modern graphics pipeline with improved lighting and shadow effects
  • Marketplace compatibility: Vibrant Visuals applies to Marketplace content, including new and existing packs
  • Save carryover: Nintendo Switch worlds can be transferred to Switch 2 so players can continue existing games

Content and cross‑play

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition supports core Minecraft features: creative building, survival modes, Realms and community servers. Players can join private servers or connect to public community servers, and multiplayer includes local split‑screen play and cross‑platform play with other consoles and PC. The Marketplace continues to offer creator‑made worlds, skins and add‑ons, and the Marketplace Pass or Realms Plus subscription remains the route to access a rotating catalog of content.

Mojang also noted a special promotional pack: the Super Mario Mash‑Up Pack, which includes a custom Mario‑themed world, 15 music tracks and 40 player skins, all with Vibrant Visuals enabled.

Upgrade path and availability

Players on the original Nintendo Switch can move saved worlds to Switch 2; Mojang said there is a free, limited‑time upgrade from Nintendo Switch to Switch 2. The company did not attach a deadline for the upgrade in the announcement provided with the launch trailer.

The release makes the Switch 2 a current platform for one of gaming's largest communities, combining the console's portability with Mojang's updated visual options.

Additional details, including precise upgrade timing and any regional differences in Marketplace content, are available from Mojang's official channels and the Nintendo eShop listings for each region.
