About 338,000 DREO space heaters sold across the United States are being recalled after the company received reports that units ignited, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Friday.

The recall covers the DREO Space Heater, model DR-HSH015. The heaters were sold at Costco stores and online through retailers including Home Depot, Best Buy, Kohl’s, QVC and Lowe’s. They were available from September 2025 through October 2026 for between $70 and $110. Additional units were sold in Canada.

Reports include property damage and a burn injury

DREO received at least 17 reports of the heaters igniting, according to the federal safety alert. Three incidents involved property damage, and one resulted in a burn injury to a person’s hand.

The agency said the recalled products can overheat and ignite, creating fire and burn hazards. The affected heaters were manufactured between April 2025 and January 2026. Consumers can find the manufacturing date on the underside of the heater and on the front of the unit.

“Consumers will be asked to unplug the space heater, destroy it by cutting the electrical cord and follow instructions to send a photo of the destroyed heater.” — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission

The commission is urging owners to stop using the heaters immediately and contact DREO for a free replacement. The company’s instructions require consumers to unplug the unit, cut through its electrical cord and submit a photograph of the destroyed heater as part of the replacement process.

What owners should check

  • Model: DREO Space Heater DR-HSH015.
  • Manufacturing period: April 2025 through January 2026.
  • Retail period: September 2025 through October 2026.
  • Remedy: Stop using the heater, contact DREO and follow the instructions for a free replacement.

The recall applies to the specified model regardless of whether it was purchased at Costco or through one of the other listed retailers. The safety commission advised consumers who have the heater to follow the recall instructions rather than continuing to operate it.
