Fontaines D.C. has opened its latest album, Dopamine Chamber, with the Irish rock band’s strongest chart performance to date. The album debuted at No. 1 on three Billboard rankings and placed in the top 10 on four others.
A broad chart debut
The album led the Independent Albums, Vinyl Albums and Indie Store Album Sales charts. It also reached No. 2 on Top Album Sales, No. 4 on Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums and No. 5 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums.
- No. 1: Independent Albums, Vinyl Albums and Indie Store Album Sales
- No. 2: Top Album Sales
- No. 4: Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums
- No. 5: Top Rock & Alternative Albums
Dopamine Chamber also entered the overall Billboard 200 at No. 14. The placement gives the band its highest position on each of the listed charts, extending the group’s reach beyond its genre-specific audience.
Sales and streaming figures
The album generated 27,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the week ending Oct. 22, according to Luminate. Traditional album purchases accounted for 18,000 of those units. Vinyl sales alone contributed 13,000, helped by the release of multiple vinyl variants, while the remaining units came from streaming activity and track sales.
Billboard reported that each of those three totals represented a career high for Fontaines D.C. The figures show the album’s debut was driven substantially by purchases as well as by listening activity, with vinyl making up a large share of the band’s album sales.
‘Marianne’ continues its radio run
The album arrived after the release of “Marianne,” which moved to No. 2 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart. The song remains at its previously established peak of No. 16 on Alternative Airplay.
In the United Kingdom, Dopamine Chamber debuted at No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart. It is the band’s second album to lead that ranking, adding an international chart milestone to its U.S. debut.
The latest Top Album Sales chart included four top-10 debuts. Alongside Fontaines D.C., PLAVE, Ashe and TWICE entered the ranking’s top 10, while CORTIS’ GREENGREEN rose from No. 39 to No. 8 after a reissue.
