Prince William and Kate Middleton marked Halloween with a royal first Saturday, sharing a throwback photograph of their youngest child, Prince Louis, on the couple’s joint Instagram account.
The Prince and Princess of Wales posted the image on Oct. 31, making it their first Halloween-themed social media publication. The photograph shows Louis at age 1, bending down to pick up a large pumpkin. Kate took the picture, according to the caption accompanying the post.
“Happy Halloween! 🎃”
Louis is now 8. In the image, he is wearing a blue raincoat, dark blue jeans and red Wellington boots as he stands near the pumpkin. The photograph was taken in Norfolk, the family’s caption said.
A family Halloween tradition
William and Kate have previously celebrated Halloween with Louis and their other two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. George is 13, while Charlotte is 11, according to the details shared with the post.
The family’s past Halloween activities have also included trick-or-treating. In 2022, London resident Jay Rutland shared a photograph of Kate taking all three children to collect candy. Rutland said Kate had knocked on the door of his London home with the children for “Trick or Treating,” describing the family as friendly and down to earth.

The new post continues the couple’s practice of sharing selected family photographs and public updates through their official social media channels. This Halloween image focuses on Louis as a toddler, several years before his current place in the family’s public appearances.
William and Kate’s post was a public acknowledgment of the holiday and a rare look back at one of their children’s early years. It also offered followers a photograph taken by Kate herself rather than an image from a formal royal engagement.
