The Chicks have postponed their Los Angeles concert because of illness, moving the performance at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre from Tuesday, to Wednesday.
The country trio announced the change Monday only hours before the venue was scheduled to open its doors. The group said previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled performance. Fans who cannot attend Wednesday’s show may request refunds through their original point of purchase.
A tour built around a landmark album
The postponed concert comes as The Chicks approach the end of their Taking the Long Way 20th anniversary tour. The run focuses on the group’s 2006 album, which opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and became one of the most commercially and critically recognized releases of the trio’s career.
“Not Ready to Make Nice,” the album’s best-known single, reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also became central to the group’s Grammy campaign: The Chicks won five awards at the 2007 Grammy Awards, including album of the year, while “Not Ready to Make Nice” won record of the year and song of the year.
- The postponed show is scheduled for Wednesday at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
- Previously purchased tickets remain valid for the new performance date.
- Fans who cannot attend may request refunds from the original point of purchase.
The album’s place in the group’s history
Taking the Long Way followed a period of intense backlash after lead vocalist Natalie Maines criticized then-President George W. Bush and the Iraq War during a 2003 concert in London. Some U.S. country radio stations stopped playing the group’s music, and protests and boycotts followed.
The controversy became a major subject on the album, particularly in “Not Ready to Make Nice,” which addressed the pressure placed on the group to apologize and its decision not to do so. The anniversary performances feature Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer playing songs from the album alongside selections from the group’s broader catalog.
The Chicks have also marked the anniversary with a 20th anniversary edition of Taking the Long Way. The new concert date keeps the Los Angeles stop within the group’s planned tour run while giving ticket holders a revised night for the performance.
